Keep a larger active project library close to the workstation with the 8TB 9100 PRO. Compare our SSD and storage range with motherboard choices before selecting a slot. MZ-VAP8T0BW is the standard module without a factory heatsink, not the separate heatsink model.
Where this product makes sense
A larger local asset library
An 8TB capacity lets more projects, media and datasets stay on the active drive. It does not supply additional GPU VRAM or guarantee that an AI model fits or runs faster.
Bandwidth when the host can use it
Samsung rates this capacity up to 14,800MB/s reads and 13,400MB/s writes under test conditions. Gen5 x4 capability, firmware and workload determine what the complete system can deliver.
Drive management, not a backup substitute
Samsung Magician provides supported health/firmware management. Encryption support requires the right host configuration; neither encryption nor SMART monitoring replaces a separate backup.
Compatibility and limits
- Use an M.2 2280 PCIe/NVMe slot. Full interface performance needs a PCIe 5.0 x4 path; a compatible Gen4 slot limits negotiated bandwidth. A SATA-only M.2 socket is not suitable.
- This standard BW variant has no factory heatsink. Use a compatible motherboard M.2 heatsink or another correctly fitted solution and adequate airflow; do not assume console/laptop cooling compatibility.
- The module is up to 80.15 × 22.15 × 3.88mm, with an 8TB package height that must fit the slot and cover. Check clearance on both sides and the host’s supported maximum capacity.
- The claimed sequential write peak uses Intelligent TurboWrite under specified conditions. Cache exhaustion, drive fill, temperature and host configuration affect sustained writes.
- AES256/TCG Opal/IEEE1667 support does not mean host encryption is automatically active. Confirm OS and firmware support and manage recovery credentials securely.
- Client PC/game-console positioning is not blanket validation for every console, enclosure or laptop. Check the exact host’s M.2 size, capacity, cooling and firmware requirements before ordering.

What is included

Not included: A factory heatsink, installation kit, M.2 enclosure/adapter, motherboard and installation service are not included. Obtain any required retention hardware and compatible cooling separately.

The 8TB model has a 5-year limited warranty or 4,800 TBW, whichever occurs first, beginning from the original purchase of the sealed product under Samsung’s applicable terms. Retain proof of purchase and the serial number; eligibility and regional claim routing remain subject to those terms. Back up data before service and contact Mineshop for claim intake. Samsung’s commercial warranty does not promise data recovery or compensation for lost data, and it does not replace statutory rights.
Six useful answers before ordering
Is this the 8TB version with a heatsink?
It is the 8TB MZ-VAP8T0BW standard module, without a factory heatsink. The separate heatsink variant is a different part number; use suitable host cooling.
Can I install it on a PCIe 4.0 motherboard?
A compatible PCIe NVMe M.2 slot may negotiate a lower-generation link. The board caps bandwidth; check its capacity support, retention hardware and thermal solution.
Are 14,800/13,400MB/s sustained transfer guarantees?
No. They are up-to sequential test ratings. TurboWrite cache, SSD fill, firmware, cooling, queue depth and the host can lower real and sustained speeds.
Will it fit any laptop or game console?
No blanket fit is promised. Check M.2 2280 electrical compatibility, support for 8TB, the 3.88mm module envelope and the complete heatsink/cover clearance for the exact host.
Does an 8TB SSD increase GPU memory for AI?
No. SSD capacity and GPU VRAM are different resources. The drive can store datasets and model files locally, but model memory and compute limits remain with the system.
What does 5 years or 4,800 TBW mean?
The commercial warranty ends at whichever limit is reached first, under Samsung’s eligibility and claim terms. Keep the invoice and serial number and maintain backups; data recovery is not included.
