Where it fits

Fast local storage shortens the time needed to load large model files, datasets, containers and project assets from disk. With 4 TB in a single M.2 slot, one drive can hold the operating system, development environments, checkpoints and media working sets of an AM5 workstation.

Crucial’s speed ratings are sequential maximums; real transfer rates depend on the slot, file sizes, workload and drive temperature. Faster storage shortens loading and data movement; it does not add GPU memory or compute performance.

Compatibility before checkout

Full PCIe 5.0 speed needs an M.2 slot wired for PCIe 5.0 x4. The drive is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0 and 3.0 slots, where it runs at that slot’s lower speed.

ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi: M.2_1 and M.2_2 support PCIe 5.0 x4 with Ryzen 9000/7000 processors. M.2_2 shares bandwidth with the second Gen5 graphics slot, so in a two-GPU build install the T700 in M.2_1 to keep both cards at x8/x8.

ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi: the Blazing M.2 socket (M2_1) runs at PCIe Gen5 x4 with Ryzen 9000/7000 processors and is ASRock’s first-priority M.2 slot.

MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi: its product data lists PCIe 5.0 for the first M.2 slot; check MSI’s manual for the slot layout and lane sharing before installing.

The heatsink is factory-fitted, and Crucial states that the T700 must be installed with a heatsink for optimal performance. If your motherboard has its own M.2 heatsink over the chosen slot, follow the board manual for installing a drive that already carries a heatsink, and check clearance to the graphics card.

Cooling and endurance

PCIe 5.0 drives work hard under sustained transfers. Crucial designed the T700’s aluminium and nickel-plated copper heatsink to help maintain performance while minimising throttling, without the noise or failure risk of a fan or liquid cooling.

Endurance is rated at 2,400 TB written (TBW) for the 4 TB model, and the drive uses Micron 232-layer TLC NAND. Crucial’s limited warranty runs for five years or until the rated TBW is reached, whichever comes first.

What is included

One Crucial T700 4 TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD with factory-fitted heatsink (CT4000T700SSD5) in retail packaging. Crucial also provides its Easy SSD install guide and the Crucial Storage Executive and Acronis True Image for Crucial software for this drive.

Motherboard, operating system and other components are not included. No M.2 screw or standoff is listed in the package contents; use the M.2 fixing supplied with your motherboard.

Frequently asked questions

Will it reach 12,400 MB/s in any M.2 slot?

Only in a slot wired for PCIe 5.0 x4, such as M.2_1 on the ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi or M2_1 on the ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi with a Ryzen 9000/7000 processor. In PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 slots it runs at that slot’s lower speed, and real-world speeds also depend on the workload.

Can I use it in a two-GPU ProArt build?

Yes, in M.2_1. Using M.2_2 on the ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi changes the two Gen5 graphics slots from x8/x8 to x8/x4.

Can it be the system drive?

NVMe SSDs can serve as boot drives on UEFI systems, and ASRock lists NVMe boot support for the X870 Pro RS WiFi. To move an existing installation, Crucial provides Acronis True Image for Crucial.

What does 2,400 TBW mean?

It is Crucial’s rated endurance: the total amount of data that can be written to the drive under its warranty. The limited warranty ends after five years or when the rated TBW is reached, whichever comes first.

Does it need extra cooling?

The factory-fitted heatsink is Crucial’s cooling for this version; keep normal case airflow across the motherboard. Crucial states the T700 must be installed with a heatsink for optimal performance.
