Which slot is needed for the full interface?

A host with a PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe-capable M.2 2280 slot is needed to use the intended interface. Platform lanes, BIOS configuration and cooling still matter.

Will an older PCIe NVMe platform run it at Gen5 speed?

No. A compatible older platform may negotiate its supported PCIe generation and lanes; it does not become a Gen5 host by installing this SSD.

Is it a direct substitute for a U.2 enterprise SSD?

No. M.2 and U.2 have different physical interfaces and integration requirements. Enterprise power-loss protection and qualification are separate considerations.

Does faster storage guarantee faster AI inference?

No. Storage can affect loading or data access, but model throughput also depends on CPU/GPU, memory, software and the workload.
